Hello, I am Mrs. Celia Castillo and
I will be your child's preschool teacher this year.  I am a recent graduate of DePaul University's School of Education.  I received a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education with an endorsement in Special Education and a minor in Communication Studies. I am  married and have 3 children; Andy, Christian & Kate. Although I pursued Marketing and Computer Science when I graduated Trinity High School, my interest in Early Childhood Education was brought about by my involvement in my children's education.  My children attended a Montessori program in their primary years which proved to be the most life changing experience ever. It affirmed my pedagogy in terms of the significance that the early years have in a child's life.   Once my children completed the primary program in Montessori, they transitioned into the Berwyn Public School system.  I was involved as a room parent at Piper, Irving, and Heritage Middle School collectively for the past 9 years which further inspired me to pursue teaching as a profession.  I can say first hand that I understand the positive role that great teachers and parent involvement play in children's lives. I am proud to be a part of the District 100 community of lifelong learners.

As a DePaul University alumni, the multicultural and urban professional brings a certain  knowledge and understanding, skills, dispositions, appropriate attitudes and above all, judgment to their roles as educators. Exercising good judgment as educators involves not just knowledge of teaching, learning, and of subject matter content. Judgment also involves understanding the social and cultural contexts in which teaching and learning take place, as well as understanding the role of education and assimilation in the lives of individuals and society.

Children and family are what I personally value the most.  In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family.  My daughter's love for softball rostered me as a coach for the last two years for Berwyn's Little League. I love what sport's teach children and therefore greatly enjoy being a volunteer for this cause. It is through my parenting that I have evolved personally and professionally.  I look forward to sharing this positive journey with all of you.
